Oral Sex-Teens or Adults, Ignorance Can Kill- Shocking Facts about Oral Sex

The Kovacs Perspective
Years ago, President Bill Clinton indicated he never had sex with a woman who had preformed oral sex on him. This occurred in the White House while he was the sitting president and it caused a stir across the country. The stir I’m talking about was whether oral sex was really “sex”. Many people agreed with him that oral sex was not really sex and asserted Clintons enemies were making a big deal out of nothing. Well, the fact was that Clinton’s enemies were making a big deal out of it, however, oral sex was sex then as it is now, but today, many people look at it as not really sex—just "kinda" sex. I personally think the Clinton deal started this mindset, however, social scientists would know better than I would.
What I am sure of though is that oral sex is rampant, especially with young people. A few years back, I knew of a high school where some teens would have boy-girl oral sex parties. They’d all get together, have at it, and feel that no harm was occurring. Some kids would do it on a regular basis—a weekend kind of thing. This alone, I have no issue with because I certainly am not the sex or moral police but the fact of the matter is that oral sex is dangerous and is getting more dangerous every day. Is that surprising to you? If so, you are not alone. Many people have absolutely no clue. Do kids know it? Do adults know it? As an example, how many people know that oral sex is the leading cause of cancers of the oral cavity, head, and neck in the U.S.? Scientists say that 64 percent of cancers of the oral cavity, head, and neck in the U.S. are caused by the human papillomavirus, which is commonly spread via oral sex. In addition, according to Ohio State University's Dr. Maura Gillison as reported by National Public Radio.com, "Today's teens consider oral sex to be casual, socially acceptable, inconsequential, and significantly less risky to their health than 'real' sex. The more oral sex you have and the more oral sex partners you have, the greater the risk of developing these potentially deadly cancers.”
There’s more serious health news about oral sex that I’ll bet you most adults and young people have no clue about either. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) there are other sexually transmitted diseases, which can be transmitted through oral sex, they are as follows:
· HIV
· Herpes
· Syphilis,
· Gonorrhea,
· Genital warts
· Intestinal parasites (amebiasis),
· Hepatitis A
Anyone with common sense should truly know that oral sex is sex. No one should fool himself or herself from that fact. Furthermore, with the factual medical knowledge we now have regarding oral sex and STD’s, adults and teens must be made aware of the serious consequences about an act that is considered safe to most people.

PaulWatch where you put those hands Paul...you never know--ha-ha........
Well said..I was having a similar converstaion today with a friend of mine about how times have changed in this regard re atttitudes to what is the 'norm' and what is not and we were wondering what the future holds from our children when desensitivity to all things sexual will be a norm because you can't avoid it on Tv, Bill boards, Magazines and so on...it's in your face everywhere...
Excuse the 'in your face' pun!! ;)Hi Leah
Thanks for commenting--there's not much more to do that isn't common place for teens etc. other than maybe desensitization which is not good regarding sex. Too much "good" can be bad. My bet is that this type of sex will curtail immensely within the next 10 years because of health issues--first adults and then kids. Nice pun Leah, I'm sure it was just a slip of the tongue...oops there I go now...sorry, -thanks for reading.Oral sex is a dark and dangerous job, but, SOMEONE has to do it!
One more reason why extensive, thorough, sex education is important to stop the spread of these diseases. We've tried abstinence only without education for too long, and it appears they are still not listening, doesn't it? If you have adults that aren't familiar with this, then I would say we truly have a problem that needs to be dealt with like mature individuals as opposed to hiding our heads in the proverbial sand. Nice message Steve.Your first sentence says it all--you da man--that sounds like the solution for kids. Now for adults maybe PSA's on TV and radio. I believe some adults do want to hide their head in the sand as if by doing so everything is okay. Makes no sense to me. You have blossomed into quite the thinking sage--congrats!
Thanks................
Steve, this article is excellent, according to the definition I gave you earlier!I'm not sure what definition you mean but I'l say thanks anyway....thanks Ken.
Steve
Your resident RN is totally agreeing with your analysis here! Thanks nurse--I didn't know that's what you do...nurses are COOL.................
Wow, Steve. A very sobering article. It is scary to think of the consequences of this relaxed view of sex - the problems these kids will face in the future in exchange for their actions.Hi Lorrie,
What surprise me is that I don't see any public service announcements on TV or anything--I think most people have no clue...I'm kind of lost why no one is talking about this. Thanks for commenting.

Excellent job Steve! This is great information and I agree with you. Oral sex is sex and it can be emotionally damaging as well. But this, would be the least of issues - or would it? Thanks for getting this information out for all to see. I pray kids surfing the net will run into this piece (no pun intended.) Blessings, Teresa
Everyone's with the puns on this one--ha-ha but yes VD can be the gift that keeps on giving the rest of your life, so emotionally is an issue in many ways I'm sure--thanks Teresa
